Objective: The course learning objectives are to:

• Set forth HIPAA's requirements for covered entities to enter into business associate agreements with third parties  

• Describe who are business associates

• Describe how covered entities may disclose protected health information to business associates

• Describe required provisions of HIPAA business associate agreements and to suggest optional provisions that should be considered

• Outline how covered entities and business associates may approach the contracting process
